The eight-sector Radial Cement Bond Tool (RBT) is used to measure the cementing quality between the casing and formation, to assure the asset owner of good hydraulic separation between producing and non-producing zones, and to evaluate the well integrity. Three feet downwards from the sonic transmitter is a radial piezoelectric receiver. Each sector of this receiver picks up the sonic signals echoed and converts to electric pulses. Each sector represents one section of the cement column, which means a complete cement map covering the whole circumference can be generated. Such problems as unwanted water or gas production, fluid migration in the annulus which results from poor cementing bond can then be detected and analyzed. The RBT tool is simple in mechanical design, has good sealing performance and is easy to maintain. Electrically, smart control is adopted. The circuitry is simple. All these ensure reliability of the tool.
